Summer vibes at Zomerbar Eleven

Finally, summer has arrived! Last week, Brouwerij Eleven opened their summer pop-up bar in a very special location, the old prison (De Lik) in Utrecht. Beach chairs, colorful umbrellas, happy music and sand between your toes all contribute to the ultimate summer vibes.

Especially for the summer bar they released a New Zealand Pale Ale with Motueka and Wai-iti hops called Summer Sentence on Friday July 13. On tap they have a few core range beers and some in cans, as well as a few bar snacks on the menu. They also serve a hot meal, de ‘Bajeshap’.

Zomerbar Eleven is open in the months July and August on Thu – Sun from 3 pm to 11 pm.

Rotterdam summer bars

In Rotterdam we have some great summer bars, too! One of my favorite local hangouts – Vet & Lazy’s Bierkaai – is on the Maas river and has a lovely terrace with an amazing view! It’s covered with upcycled sails to give well needed shade on hot days. They have some great beach chairs if you’re brave enough to sit by the edge of the water! No worries, they will throw you a flamingo in case you fall in by accident.

Near Bierkaai, towards the watertower in De Esch, is De Maaskantine. It’s basically like a beach bar in the city, with deck chairs, and they are only open during the summer months. They do activities too, like showing outdoor movies and yoga classes, but be quick! The movie tickets sell out really fast.

On the other side of the river Kaapse Brouwers has a bar ‘Kaapse Kaap‘ in Fenix I with a huge terrace and a view of Hotel NY and the famous neighboring skyscrapers on Kop van Zuid. They have 20 taps and you can order food from the culinary vendors next door.

Not on the water, but with an equally excellent terrace (and beach chairs) is Brouwerij Noordt. Hidden away in between apartment buildings, this gorgeous brewery is located in a former fire station. They have lots of seating indoors and outdoors, so a great place to visit and taste one of their twenty beers on tap in any weather!
