GOOISCHE BROUWERIJ - They have had a fantastic awa

GOOISCHE BROUWERIJ - They have had a fantastic award-winning year, with recently 4 medals at the Brussels Beer Challenge, and in May they won the award for Best Beer of The Netherlands with their schwarz beer. Did you know @gooische_bierbrouwerij also make wonderful grape ales? I recently tasted their Grape Ale VI with locally grown Johanniter and Solaris grapes from Zonnestraal vineyard. A lovely light sour beer/wine hybrid. The brewery is located in Hilversum and their mission is to make excellent beers with local ingredients or sourced as local as possible.

A grape ale is a marriage between beer and grape, where grape must or juice is added during fermentation. They can contain funky, barnyard, farmhouse-like flavors, but are usually more subdued than lambic beer, highlighting specific grape varieties. I believe there are even grape ale festivals organized in Italy, one for the wish list!

SHIPPED BEER FESTIVAL - Last weekend the 2nd editi

SHIPPED BEER FESTIVAL - Last weekend the 2nd edition of @kaapsebrouwers & @stadshavenbrouwerij festival took place. What a pleasure to taste beers from the breweries in this excellent line-up! @amagerbryghus (DK), @seefbier (BE), @barrierbrewingco (US), @fullcirclebrew (UK), @galway_bay_brewery (IE), @labietis (LT), and @stroombrouwers (BE). How fun to drink the festival collab Hopfenweissen from the mini barrel! It was a lively party with various awesome DJs, including our very own @brewsandjams

🍺 Barrier Brewing from Oceanside NY makes an excellent double coffee stout called Morticia made in Bourbon soaked oak, with Sumatran and Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee blend. One of my favorites of the festival ♥️

🍺 Galway Bay: I got a taste of their famous Sixty Ships Down B.A Stout! With tonka and vanilla, nom nom

🍺 Full Circle: this was my first encounter with this English brewery from Newcastle upon Tyne. They are keeping up with the Cold IPA trend with their thirstquenching Space Police.

🍺 Kaapse Brouwers: the Shipped Rauchbier is another collab made with Stadshaven Brouwerij for the festival, a smoked märzen. A great beer for festival daydrinking 😇

🍺 Labietis: this fresh blueberry beer was divine! Melleņu Mežonis 2023 (Blueberry Wildling)

🍺 Stroom: my first ever beer by this brewery. I tasted their Mondello (fruited IPA) and Yak (farmhouse ale). I preferred the first one, but both were good. I believe they are a relatively new kid on the block and have been commercially brewing since 2021. Well done to get invited to a Dutch festival in such a short time👌🏼

🍺 Amager: this was my first beer of the festival, the Baby Wombat from Hell (English Porter), an excellent first beer of the day at 6%. Not too heavy, but a nice balance of malt and hops.

ROTT.LESSER - On Sunday the nominations for the 'N

ROTT.LESSER - On Sunday the nominations for the 'Nederlandse Favoriete Bierlijst' were presented, an event which was organized and hosted by @the_dutch_beer_ambassador in Café De Engel in Oldenzaal. I was invited to be one of the 45 panelists and nominate one of my favorite beers of the year.

🍺 I chose a hoppy Saison by @rott.brouwers. This brewery has been consistently brewing good quality beers since 2017 and are one of the top breweries in Rotterdam. They are hardworking, down to earth and passionate about what they do. Their ROTT.lesser is a fruity and citrusy Saison, with prominent white wine notes from the Nelson Sauvin hops and a dry finish. A saison with a Rotterdam twist. Great for the summer or just when you're thirsty! Their core range of beers are all good thirstquenchers 👌🏻

BILLIE'S - It was another beautiful @billiescraftb

BILLIE'S - It was another beautiful @billiescraftbeerfest in Antwerp last weekend! Two days of tasting beautiful beers, Friday from behind the tap and Saturday as a visitor. It is a really fun festival to be a volunteer. You are well taken care of in terms of food and plenty of breaks. And you can also taste beers in between. I had the honor of pouring beers for Brasserie de la Senne and De Dolle Brouwers, among others. And if you work one day you can enter for free the other day.

There was a huge choice of lovely beers and breweries, many high point beers too, but luckily enough under 10%. I tasted some fantastic wild ales from Mariatorgets (SE), Dois Corvos (PT), Oud Beersel and Mlinarica (HR). Great stouts too (Sori, Bottle Logic). And a few thirst quenching low ABV beers such as the great London Black from Anspach & Hobday.

My favorite 'new discovery' was Tyrell, a small brewery in Germany. This is the brainchild of an experienced brewer (including at Stone Berlin) who makes beautiful barrel-aged Berliner Weisses, Stouts and Porters. For example, Waldkeizer - a Berliner Weisse made especially for Billie's and barrel-aged with Woodruff - was a creative delight. Combined with a few nice trips to local beer pubs, this is one of the highlights of the year.
