Twelve Rotterdam breweries have teamed up for a unique collaboration! After brewing two beers together for Rotterdam Beer Week in 2023 and 2024, they are taking things a step further. In December the foundation Rotterdam Bierstad was launched, whose main purpose will be to bundle resources and organize collaborative events to further promote Rotterdam beer and breweries. They are opening with a big splash by organizing a Rotterdam beer festival on Saturday February 8, 2025. Check out my event page for more info. It promises to be a great party and the perfect showcase for the wonderful beer scene in this city.
Rotterdam Beer Week is a fun twist on the annual Dutch Beer Week that is held every year in May. Since 2023 Rotterdam breweries have made a collaboration beer together in honor of the beer week and put on several fun local beer events such as tap takeovers, guided brewery tours and more, dubbing it ‘Rotterdam Beer Week’. The first collaboration brew was Sterker door Samenwerking – Stronger through Collaboration – a 7% Cold IPA. In 2024 they made the MAASsive Rotterdam collab, a New Zealand pilsner and a pun on the name of Rotterdam’s river Maas. I am looking forward to the 2025 version and to the events that Rotterdam Bierstad will be hosting!
Participating breweries in Rotterdam Bierstad are Stadshaven Brouwerij | Kaapse Brouwers | Brouwerij Noordt | ROTT. Brouwers | Stadsbrouwerij De Pelgrim Rotterdam | VET & LAZY | Jelster | Trots Rotterdams Bier | Monarch Brewery | Hofbrouwerij Reijngoud | Hoevebrugsch | Brouwerij Tureluur.

Rotterdam Brouwersbijbel
The Rotterdam Bierstad partnership follows on the foot of the recent launch of the Rotterdam brewers’ bible, a wonderful coffee table book. It’s a comprehensive story of all current Rotterdam breweries and the history leading up to how they came to be, written by Sander Grip with gorgeous photography by Sander Nagel. It features 20 breweries, 22 beer cafés and one beer store. I was interviewed in June and very honored and proud to be named in this beautiful book! The Brouwersbijbel is a must for all beer lovers. You will find it at Rotterdam book stores and online here.
