BELGIAN BEER WORLD - Brussels has a new beer museu

BELGIAN BEER WORLD - Brussels has a new beer museum! Located on the second and third floors of the renovated stock exchange building La Bourse, @belgian_beer_world is an interactive trip through Belgian beer culture, history and the production process. It costs 17 eur and ends with a free drink at the Skybar, where you can choose from a range of 100+ well-known Belgian beers. The terrace provides a beautiful view of the city.

The museum has created some controversy among critics who say that the building should remain a public space. Others are sceptical of the choice of breweries included, saying it is oriented more towards the large commercial breweries. Some reviews call it a 'tourist trap'. All the more reason to visit to see what all the commotion is about.

I found several parts to be fun and interesting, especially the interactive quiz in the room 'Inside the brewer's head'. The audio-visual features of the museum are impressive (and look expensive) but are somewhat childish. Hence suitable for all ages. It gets better and more interesting for adults later on in the exhibit, though the information stays pretty basic. Some of the gadgets and attributes are already not working after three weeks, so they need to sort out some of those hiccups. What bothered me quite a lot is the strange font they used for all texts, including on their website. The t's look like the letter r with a longer antenna, making it a bit annoying to read.

Belgians are proud of their beer heritage and rightly so. It's even been included by Unesco on the representative list of intangible cultural heritage. Up to you to decide if Belgian Beer World does it justice!

EPIC BREWING - A few weeks ago I was fortunate to visit beautiful Utah for the first time and the brewery & 'tapless' taproom of @epicbrewingslc 🇺🇸, well-known for their Big Bad Baptist BA series. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, not only thanks to the great beers but also the wonderful company of Tristan, Epic's bartender and beer expert.

In 2009 Epic Brewing Company became Utah’s first brewery since prohibition to exclusively brew high-alcohol content beer. A bit odd to have a tapless taproom? That has everything to do with Utah’s strict alcohol laws. Restaurants and bars can serve draft beer up to 5%. A higher ABV is considered a high alcohol beer, also called “High-point beer,” or “Heavy beer, which is pretty much all Epic brews haha!

I very much appreciated that they served taster sizes, as I was on a mission to visit all breweries. And it's just so much more customer friendly (and appropriate for Utah) to not make pint size beers mandatory, which was the case at some other places.

🍺 Tart 'n Juicy - Sour IPA 5.1%, grapefruit sourness and bitterness. I loved this beer, one of my favorites of the Utah trip.

🍺 Big Bad Baptist BA with cocoa nibs and coffee added - Imperial Stout 11.5%

🍺 Utah Sage Saison release #57 - 6.5% Belgian Strong Golden Ale, herbal and peppery, took some getting used to!

🍺 Brainless - 8.9% Belgian style Golden Ale, mild sweetness and hoppiness, not too estery which I like.

@vetlazybierkaai is open! I really missed these guys, happy to be back at their bar, enjoying their fluffy beers and the best view in Rotterdam. Their new bar is beautiful! For their interior they used mostly sustainable or recycled materials, like the soundproof paper maché ceiling, the recycled vinyl floor, and scrapwood tables. The bar is made from local Rotterdam wood (Overschie) and they put in the Rolls Royce of tapsystems. The crazy and hilarious wallpaper was designed by the same artist who creates their fun beer labels. It is hot as hell today in the sun, so I'm sitting inside. It already feels like home ❤️

On my last trip to London I visited @wildcardbrewe

On my last trip to London I visited @wildcardbrewery, which I had learned about through their head brewer's (Jaega Wise) book Wild Brews. The brewery was started in 2012 and they have now two taprooms in East London. It was a fun trip by subway and double-decker bus to get there. The brewery is in an industrial area in Walthamstow and has a big terrace with lots of seating outdoors and indoors. Great for a sunny afternoon. By happy accident I learned there are several more in the neighborhood, which they call the Blackhorse Beer Mile. There is so much fun beer stuff going on in London!
